In this day and age, there are ample brands of perfume for all sorts of occasions and tastes – your choices are unlimited. It is also a perfect gift to present your loved ones for any occasion – birthdays, anniversaries or just another special reminder to show how much they mean to you.
So, how exactly does one decide on the perfect perfume? One way is to determine what smells you prefer – rummage through your kitchen or garden and take a whiff of the different scents– lemons, vanilla, roses etc. Another way is to keep your senses alert – when you smell a fragrance that you love on someone else, be sure to track them down and ask what perfume they are wearing. That should help narrow down the choices, when you actually go to a perfume shop to make your purchase.
Selecting a perfume isn’t as simple as grocery shopping and cannot be thought of as a three minute affair. With the enormous range of scents and brands available these days, it is a real headache to select the perfect one. Take your time to discover the different scents and brands at various shops before making a decision.
Don’t attempt to test 10 different perfumes at once – by the time you reach the 6th, your noses would be utterly confused and overworked, so your brains will either screech…’No, not today’ or ‘Yes, I’ll take this one’ (grabbing the nearest one).
Don’t be too hasty with your choices! Once you have sprayed a test scent, wait 10 minutes before smelling and picking your ideal choice. To help pass time, investigate other brands that you may fancy. I know some people who carry on with their normal shopping for an hour, before sniffing again to ensure the ‘after-smell’ is just as good, before returning to make their purchase.
Don’t test the perfume that you want on your friend – each person has their own body odour, which complements the perfume. So, what may seem like a breath of fresh air on her – may not seem as fresh on you. On the same basis, don’t just buy any brand for your better half/family/friends if you want to gift them with perfume. People’s tastes differ, so you may want to research on their preferences; you can casually ask him/her what brand they use or types of tastes they prefer, and buy something to their liking. If in doubt, make sure that there is an exchange policy!
Finally, although you may have found your favourite perfume, be sure to keep looking for more delightful scents as new fragrances are constantly being launched almost weekly! So keep your noses working and indulge yourself.
