almost choking is it polite to let that person know,even if it’s just a person who you had the misfortune of being stuck in a confined space with, like an elevator or on a bus ?

If it’s a one-time encounter such as in an elevator, keep your mouth shut. It’s not like they can take the perfume off.

If it’s someone you see regularly you could take them aside and say that although you like the fragrance, you are allergic or asthmatic, etc. and that it makes it a little more difficult for you to breathe. You feel horrible asking, but would she mind wearing a little bit less at work?
