Perfume – Scents of Time

If to you perfume seems like a boring present to buy someone and one that shows little thought has gone into the present buying process then think again because fragrance-seeker David Pybus has made perfume more exciting and interesting than it’s ever been. Pybus has found a way to recreate fragrances from the times of Ancient Egypt, Pompeii and Mesoamerica. This may sound completely impossible, but Pybus has scoured tombs for inscriptions of formulas, deciphered hieroglyphics for information, examined spores that he discovered in ancient gardens and has even studied genuine samples that had been preserved for thousands of years in volcanic rock, all to bring you these fantastic fragrances from the past. There are four fragrances that you can choose between; Pyxis, Nenúfar, Ankh and Maya. They all have their own specific scents and all come beautifully packaged with their own booklet which describes how the perfume was lost, found and then re-created. Here is a short description of each fragrance to help you make up your mind; Pyxis: This perfume has been re-created from floral, herbal and spice spores that were found in the garden of a Pompeian perfumer. This is a very feminine fragrance. Nenúfar: This is Cleopatra’s scent and it was made from fragrances collected using a technique called ‘head spacing’ which involves stealing the aromas of preserved substances. This scent is also very feminine and its prime ingredient is Blue Lotus, a bloom that was very sacred to all Pharaohs. Ankh: This is Tutankhamen’s fragrance and unlike the previous two, it is a unisex fragrance and has been re-created by using actual formulas for the scent found at Edfu which is situated on the Nile. The scent has a smoky aroma and is similar to burning incense. Maya: This is a very mystical scent from the Americas and has been created by Colombian perfumer Jorge Lee. This perfume evokes many tropical scents that were found detailed in Mayan poetry. Some very typical scents from this time were vanilla and chocolate and this perfume conjures these aromas up perfectly. If you need any additional information on this product to help you make up your mind then perhaps the fact that Theo Paphitis and Peter Jones from Dragons’ Den invested in the Scents of Time might be enough acclaim to convince you.

Each perfume comes with its own booklet which describes how the scent was lost, found and then re-created. The Pyxis perfume has been re-created from floral, herbal and spice spores found in a garden belonging to a Pompeian perfumer. The Mayan perfume conjures up the very typical scents of vanilla and chocolate.
