Can perfume go bad/off?

I just bought my husband a bottle of Paco Robanne XS, it is a very old perfume in the sense that it has been out a long time but I think the smell is great. He opened the bottle and there were red flakes at the bottom of the liquid. It also doesn’t smell the same as I remember. I can’t see an expiry date on the bottle. Can I take it back to the store or will they say perfume doesn’t go bad?

I am sure it does go off, as I’ve had bottles for years and they don’t smell very good after that time. It’s hard to describe, but they all have the same sort of smell, so I guess the fragrance wears off before the smell of the other ingredients does.

I think go back to the store and be really nice and polite about it, as that will give you the best chance of a refund.
